where to mount transducer

I'm new to this stuff so please bear with me.

I just purchased the humminbird 597ci hd di combo.

I need to mount the transom transducer and the directions say I may be able to mount it on the step.

I have a 2001 Procraft 185 pro.

I taped the transducer mount where I think is a good place. Any guidance or help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
