Well if'n your like me structure is a big part of your business and sucess.
I sink and suspend structure alot in the colder months. first reason being
that its cold and most people don't wanna be out there on the water, making
it easier to drop or suspend the cover and people won't see you doing it
and fish your spots to death. Secondly, it's a slowere time of the year for us
and we can take our time to find just the right spots. When we are looking for
the right spot we usually try to get near docks. Docks near deep water and on a
point, and very near a channel. We usually start by looking at a topo of the
area we want to BRUSH UP. If i'm gonna sink or drop cover then i usually just
go out and find a bunch of limbs or small trees and sink then with a block or 2 ( this
is much easier if you will find green limbs and trees ). I usually find this
stuff at the lake. When sinking cover i will also look for variations in the shore
line, like chunk rock going to sand or sand to lime stone. I then use my graph to
tell me what is under the water and ill look for the same changes under water,
and when i decide on a depth thats where i drop it say 25fow right on as close
the sand lime stone change.
When i suspend cover im looking for pretty much the same thing cept its gonna
hang under the dock on a rope. All the same rules apply i just have to build the
cover. What we do is this. take a 6' 2X4 and drill a 1/2" hole in it at the top
and at the bottom. Tie a rope on the bottom and tie a rock or block onto the end
of the bottom rope. Get out the DeWalt and start screwing 1X1's to the 2X4 in all
Differant directions, BE SURE TO LEAVE SOME LARGE SPACES IN THE TREE YOU ARE MAKING
Lil fish can get in to the smaller spaces between the 1bys but the larger fish cannot.
now tie the rope to the crossmembers under the dock, (PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE ATTACHING
THE WEIGHTED TREE TO THE ROPE) PUSH THIS ROPE UNDER THE DOCK AS FAR AS YOUR ARM WILL
ALLOW YOU TO DO SO WITHOUT GOING SWIMMIN. now tie the only end of the
rope that aint tied to the top hole in the 2X4 and let the whole thing drop into the
water swinging up under the dock. the depth of the cover is your choice
